got our #lispgamejam entry coming together a lot faster than previous ones did; it's feeling pretty solid and this is just day 3
playing lode runner for NES for inspiration, and wow, this is a lot worse than my memories of the apple ][ version.
it's mostly fun but the scrolling is incredibly bad; it doesn't center the player on the screen so you can run right into an enemy and not see it until the last split-second before he's on top of you. (it wouldn't nearly as bad if it wasn't so clear to me how easy it would have been to write better scrolling.)
@technomancy This reminds me of Spacestation Pheta.
@technomancy Plus the jump sound effect was just a recording of someone saying "jump"
@neal my weirdest and most vivid memory of the game is that my uncle started to play Spectre on our Mac and he was having a hard time because we had one of those wacky keyboards with the arrows in that bizarre ← → ↑ ↓ arrangement so I suggested he could play Spacestation Pheta to get more comfortable with the arrows and he was like "nah I'm good"
@neal wow, that's an obscure reference I didn't expect to hear!
my memory of Spacestation Pheta (I played a lot in elementary school) was that of being a straight up Lode Runner clone but looking more closely at it now it's a lot more complexity that wasn't present in Lode Runner.
