Rendering a short demo video for yesterday's release of Typica. It's just me roasting a batch of coffee (screen recording of the software as I'm doing that) and talking about the program, some cuts because the batch took longer to roast than I wanted to talk. Screen recording made with QuickTime Player, audio recording in Audacity, video assembly in Kdenlive, no AI.
And now the source code is also available for those who want to build this on other platforms. Maybe tomorrow I might be able to assemble a little demo video showing off the shiny new features. I did a screen recording of setting that up and roasting a batch of coffee with it last night so I'd just need a voice over and chopping that up a bit.
Spent some time working out better default sizing for the various parts of the roasting window. I expect that most people will still want to customize all of this, but now a lot of people probably won't feel like they absolutely have to in order to make this nice to use (the old behavior for the 2.0alpha1 would have been bad for everybody). Better first impression.
Did one more issue fix for a thing that worked fine on Linux but behaved obnoxiously on Mac (easy 1 line each in 2 files fix, I've seen this before so I knew exactly what to check) so I'm going to try to put out a Typica 2.0 alpha 1 build hopefully later tonight after work and dinner and then I'd also like to put together some documentation going over setup and whatnot, but that's probably not going to be finished tonight.
I've decided on what this year's Holiday Blend is going to be (just in time for Halloween). It comes across as a smooth, sweet dark roast with a fruity aroma that's great as a dessert coffee. It uses coffees from Guatemala (Coban), Sulawesi, Ethiopia (Guji), and El Salvador (an anaerobic natural pacamara).
I'm old enough to remember when grade 3 would always get bumped down to grade 4 for tax evasion purposes.
5 new coffees: a Guatemala Coban, an anaerobic natural pacamara from El Salvador, a decaf Brazil which I hope I can switch to for decaf French Roast, a regular Brazil that I want the same thing out of, and a grade 3 Ethiopia Guji.
So that Mac build that I put together the other day is in a bit of an odd spot. On the machine I built it on everything works as expected. On a different machine that has nothing relevant installed it half works where some of the functionality provided by one my dependencies works (so the library is getting loaded and symbols resolved) and other functionality is not working at all so clearly I need to get to the bottom of that before letting other people use this.
