Throwing the baby out with the bathwater is supposed to be an obvious mistake but sometimes you're a time travelling nanny, the baby is hitler, and maybe it's fine to throw out that baby with the bathwater.

I only just realised that the actress playing Dr Pulaski in TNG (Diana Muldaur) is in two original series episodes (Return to Tomorrow S2E20, 'Is There in Truth No Beauty?' S3E5)

Cat was very interested in the groceries, but I didn't get anything for her.

Short work day tomorrow due to funeral. Need to remember to bring a suit.

I still think it's mildly insane that Amazon doesn't combine the payments for video royalties from different regions. They could have done a single 82 cent transfer instead of a 74 cent transfer, a 7 cent transfer, and a 1 cent transfer. Of course, if Amazon can afford to do that, what's Alphabet/Google's excuse with YouTube?

The cat disapproves of my dinner choice and so do I, but I didn't want to shop after work.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a good home WiFi AP? Mine is failing at about 5PM almost every evening in such a way that everything comes back if I just unplug/replug the Ethernet cable going to the modem, but it's obnoxious to have to do that nearly every day.

I wonder how much beer you get out of 6 pounds of coffee.

Lets take a moment to talk about the many faces of Activity Pub (this network)

Mastodon wants to replace twitter (some of their warts and all)

Pleroma wants to empower communities and users by building a great platform for "the socials" that has a STRONG focus on safety (I promise, there are some amazing features like MRF which are not widely known or understood). Think bulletin boards / forums in a very very broad sense.

Pixelfed is slowly building federation support to take on Instagram

Plume is a blogging engine that leverages the network for comments and sharing of content (Tumblr alternative)

PeerTube is hoping to take on YouTube

FunkWhale is inspired by grooveshark and wants you to get your groove going

PInafore is a lean, mean UI that's pretty

Halcyon is a tweet deck alternative

we have a couple CLI UI's as well

We have some tools that auto-delete posts after a timeout

We have some tools that cross post rss feed articles as posts

We have a LOT of developers from ALL over that are doing some really cool things.

This network isn't just a singular instance OR experience. It's the human condition of many views upon a topic expressed in a technical form.

Be kind, rewind

At the hardware store I saw a product called OdoBan. Sadly not intended to counter the changeling infestation.

Having written that down, it's actually a little bit surprising how many new machine designs fail on key criteria. Sometimes these deficiencies mean exercises that should be doable in minutes take hours instead. Others mean your very expensive machine is likely to become impossible to repair within a few decades.

Drafted about six pages on how to choose a good machine for learning to roast coffee. It should also be a good read for someone considering opening a roasting company who doesn't know what to look for in a first production roaster. It briefly covers things like controls and instrumentation, a usable trier, batch size, build quality and availability of replacement parts, budget, and training. No mention of specific brands/models because that would be huge and quickly outdated.
