Today's code is all about making stuff that works robust against the absurd.

The 25 pounds of cinnamon I ordered recently has shipped. Also some coffee samples that I didn't ask for that I have no idea what they are, but sure I'll run those through the lab roaster and see what I think.

If enough donations come in that I can afford to take a few months mostly away from the shop to focus on Typica development, most of the work that needs to get done could be done from home and the cat would be happy to sit next to me while I work on that. typica.us/

YTD financial support is currently $200, which more than covers keeping the web site up for the year, but not much else.

PeerTube still doesn't like videos taken on my phone unless I do some pre-processing locally (the server side transcoding job fails) so you'll all just have to live without seeing a brief clip of my cat trying to convince me to stay home and play with the cat this morning.

supertuxkart 1.0 runs very nicely on my laptop (though it takes a while to get through the screen size settings to something that doesn't look tiny). Unfortunately the buttons it says I should press for things don't always match up with my controller. For example, the tutorial says Y for nitro boost but it's really LB.

I spend a lot of time in corners of coffee shops and pubs and taverns and such, sitting by myself with my hood pulled up. I really feel like I should have an adventure hook ready just in case I ever meet a party of PCs starting a new session.

Some chocolate eggs didn't sell. I'm eating them instead of selling at a discount.

The cat is especially talkative today. Lots of excitement outside that she needs to tell me about.

Reason to not trust github: they call their mascot octocat even though it only has 5 tentacles.

My post-op instructions say I can eat solid food again, but I own soup so I guess I'm eating soup. Hopefully the driveway is no longer blocked when I get home as I've been invited out for food tomorrow and it would be nice to not need to get someone to pick me up for that.

That's it for the gift coffee so now I'll be going back to drinking stuff roasted at my own shop.

Bonus: their math seems to be wrong. DTR ranges from 17.06-21.74% (none at 20%) if I'm reading the timing charts right. Converted ranges to seconds within the particular range for ease of comparison and a total for those who want to check my math.

What I'd really like to taste is this coffee taken a little bit darker to get rid of that raw coffee taste detractor, use the short roast's dry time, the long roast's mid time, and the middle roast's dev time to a higher ending temperature. That should improve sweetness and maybe get some chocolate into the cup.

Overall, my preference is for the mid or long roast as these both slightly diminish the flavor of not getting the coffee hot enough. The middle roast has the best balance of these three and is what I'd generally prefer to drink, though the long roast is hinting at the possibility of some interesting flavors that just aren't getting developed.

With the long roast, acidity continues to be further muted and this coffee is starting to come across as somewhat flat, still with that background raw coffee taste.

The mid-timed roast brings up the body. The acidity is slightly muted and presents a better balance in the context of the rest of the cup. Given that these were all taken to the same end temperature, the expectation is that this particular raw coffee flavor would be present on all three roasts. Indeed it is, and it would have been nice to taste this, even if they wanted to stick with light roasts, taken 5-10°F hotter.

My first impression is that the chosen ending temperature for all three of these is too low. That green coffee flavor that I complained about with the Mexican coffee a few days ago is also on display here and that's purely a function of just not getting the coffee hot enough. This is especially prevalent on the fastest roast.
